What is ABIP?

  • BBB Accredited Business Identification Program (ABIP) allows participating qualified businesses to identify themselves with the BBB by using the authorized BBB name and/or logo in their advertising (i.e. Yellow Pages, Business Directories, newspapers other print advertising, electronic media, business stationery and vehicles upon prior BBB approval).  

Who is Eligible?

  • Any business or organization which is a member in good standing of the BBB and been established for at least one year, is eligible to participate.
  • In order to participate, a business must sign an agreement with its local Bureau which indicates that it is "pre-committed to arbitration". This simply means that if a consumer complaint against the business cannot be resolved through normal BBB mediation, then the case can be turned over to an impartial arbitrator, whose decision in the matter will be binding.

Why Participate?

  • Canadian consumers are aware of BBB system, according to polls, 80% have a favorable impression of it. By using the BBB name and/or logo, you are associating your business with an organization which Canadians both know and trust.
  • Displaying the authorized BBB name and/or logo immediately identifies your firm as a supporter of BBB, and thus a supporter of the ethical standards and practices associated with the BBB system. Your customers can have the confidence that your are willing to subject your performance to an independent third party.
  • The authorized BBB name and/or logo symbolizes your commitment to binding arbitration, which further demonstrates to consumers your dedication to fair business practices.

Name and Logo Usage ...

  • Yellow Pages and other recognized printed Business Directories - the Offline Advertising Seal (black only) with Accredited Business underneath.
  • Newspaper, other Print and Electronic media - the Offline Seal (black and teal blue) with Accredited Business underneath.
  • Internet - Not applicable.  Businesses wishing to identify themselves as BBB Accredited Businesses on the Internet need to use the BBBOnLine logo.  Please click here to view information about BBBOnLine.
  • Business Stationery - the Offline Seal (black and teal blue) with Accredited Business underneath. Business Stationery includes Business Cards, Contracts, Quotations, and Invoices.
  • Vehicles - an enlarged Offline Seal (black and teal blue) with Accredited Business underneath. This usage is only for small companies that do not have a store front location.
